Celebrating the ladies...

So it is Women's Day in South Africa and as a lady (kinda) I thought I wanted to give my fellow (no pun intended) lady authors a shout out. Even if they aren't SA squeezas, it doesn't matter, because they all know what love, care and kindness with a little badassness TRULY means!

But.

Before I give more about any of them, I want to thank my favourite ladies for being there for me.

Mam, you are the #1 lady in SA! Lava ya!

Ouma, damn you are awesome and I love that you are so 'naughty'!

T and Neldie, you are the two people who helped me grow, thanks a bunch!

Chloé and Zoey, you won't get to read this, but I love you, my lady furry babies.

Now back to the other awesome ladies you need to know of. Note: There is no order in the way they have been presented, apart from alphabetically arranged surnames, because I like them all equally.

Madhuri Blaylock

I’m that Indian girl everyone thinks is Black...or Spanish...or Black and Spanish. I’m from down South, have lived in the New York City area for more than twenty years, and am proof that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl. I love Old Scout bourbon, french fries, tattoos, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, my mom’s Indian food, Friday Night Lights, coffee, and Martha’s Vineyard. I can wiggle my ears, flare my nostrils, and curl my tongue. I am an introvert who can fool people into thinking I am an extrovert, all the while wishing I was home alone, not having to speak to a soul, lost in a fantastical world of my own creation. As the great Charles Bukowski said, I write because it comes bursting out of me. I cannot stop it, nor do I want to.

Jessica DeFrancesco

Jessica Defrancesco was born and raised in Pittsburgh. From a young age, reading and writing was her passion. Her first job was at a library where it felt more like a playground than a job. Sadly playgrounds don't pay the bills, but Jessica revisits her local libraries frequently. Her book happened by accident as a therapeutic release from a rough time in her life. A sequel is in the works and any and all feedback is always welcome.

Joy Eileen

I live in sunny southern California, and unless I am pulled out of here kicking and screaming (or I am offered an obscene amount of money) I don't ever see myself leaving. When I am not enjoying the weather, I am stuck in a dark little room rubbing a naked person, and only to be let out every hour on the hour (or if you prefer a simpler term, I am a massage therapist.) I have had many jobs from working at AT&T, a casino, and even Microsoft, before I started massage. I enjoy talking to people, and love listening to their stories as I feel everyone has a story to tell (some I could live without ever hearing, but who am I to judge.) Massage also allows me time to get my stories in order. When a client falls asleep, my mind will wander creating scenes that I quickly jot down on any available surface until I am able to get in front of my handy dandy laptop. I live in a chaotic house full of love, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I do enjoy the quiet time when everyone is asleep, and I am able to write with Rock'n'Roll blaring in my ears of course. When I am not touching naked people, or stuck in front of my laptop I love to read. Reading is what inspired me into actually leashing myself to my laptop in order to create my books. I love getting lost in a book, and have been known to fall in love with characters, and hope to invoke that same emotion for my readers. Other tidbits you may want to know . . . I workout with my niece three times a week where she makes me flip tractor tires, and beat up ship rope (she may be evil.) My favorite color is green, and my favorite number is 8. I love music, especially anything from the rock persuasion, from classic rock like Pink Floyd to my new favorite Halestorm.

Claudette Melanson

Claudette Melanson writes & edits in Guelph, Ontario, with her husband Ron and four bun babies: Tegan, Pepper, Butters & Beckett. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BA in English and an MA in Literature. She's wished to be a Vampire since age five. She hopes to one day work full time as an author, since there are many, many books living inside her head. In her spare time she enjoys watching Japanese Anime and reading vampire stories....along with other great fiction. She is also very interested in good health and is an advocate of Ketogenic eating, using whole and natural foods. Her favorite foods are bulletproof coffee, cashew flour crust pizza and treats made with xylitol and almond, coconut or cashew flours. Future dreams include writing many more books and spending more time with her son Jacob. Her biggest dream is to make Universal Halloween Horror Nights a yearly event with hubby and son. A Rabbit Rescue fanatic, she also hopes to help rescues all over the world save many innocent lives.

Kayti Nika Raet

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Kayti Nika Raet moved down South when she was 11, where she was bitten by the writing bug, as well as other, less friendly insects. She is the author of the Outsider Chronicles, a five book series starting with NIKO and set in a world where the rain burns like acid and flesh eating monsters roam. She's also a reviewer for Readers' Favorite and has her own Youtube Channel: Kayti Edition. When she is not hard at work on her fourth book she has fun reading, listening to K-pop, and photography. Kayti lives in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Emma Sydney

Emma Sydney lives in Northern Indiana, USA and writes erotica for women looking for a little something to spice up their nights. Her stories deal with REAL women in fantasy situations. If you want a short, sensual read that you can easily fit into a busy schedule then Emma is the author for you!

So those are my sweet souls, I think the world should take note of, because they are amazing in all they do.

Enjoy Women's Day and guys; we still love you.

See you on the other side!
