Author Quickie with...Madhuri Blaylock

NOTE:

These are the most random Qs I could find and come up with, but it is to show readers how authors are just like them or maybe so different that they are their own species. I have several awesome authors already lined up and so far I am going to post them with two days in between each post - we already have a line-up into October, but don't let it scare you to take part though. I'll be sharing with you all; the answers to the set questions and introduce you to some awesome people, and later, all of this will be used in a statistical type blog. Hopefully, we can keep this going for as long as possible and gain as many author's inputs to make this thing grow.

But it doesn't stop there:

~If you are an author who is interested in taking part in this silly game of mine; message, email or find me on a social network.

~If you are a reader and wanna take part; do the same and become part of the fun. (It'll be really cool to have your stats as well.)

~If you are none of the above...ag, shame. Anyway, if you are an artist, a doctor, a barista or just randomly ended up here; bring it on and we can have a little fun when the stats have grown.

Madhuri Blaylock

Morning person or night owl?

Neither, I never sleep. Sleep is for wimps.

Coffee, tea or neither?

Girl, please. COFFEE. That is all.

EBooks or printed books?

There is nothing as magical as flipping through a book, the sound of the pages, the feel of the binding, the sexy of the cover. God, they’re fucking heaven and I love stacking them on my bookshelves.

That said, eBooks serve a purpose - they don’t weigh a thing and no one can tell you’re reading heaps of nasty, raunchy, hardcore BDSM and menage.

Bookmark or dog-ear pages?

Dog-ear, because I’m bad like that. I also take copious notes in my books, underlining stunning prose and leaving comments all over the place. Some folks might find that damn near sacrilege, but my books are loved and you can tell every time you open them.

Extrovert or Introvert?

I’m an introvert who can fool others into believing I’m an extrovert, all the while wondering how much longer before I get to slip away, be by myself, and get lost in the clusterfuck that is my over-active imagination.

Secret talents? If so, what are they?

I can curl my tongue, flare my nostrils, and wiggle my ears. I have some other talents, but this is neither the time nor the place to reveal them.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Time travel. I would love to do some morning yoga with Gandhi, lunch and an afternoon walk with Zora Neale Hurston, dinner with Malcolm X, Huey Newton, Angela Davis, and Stokely Carmicheal, then late night whiskey and smokes with Mark Twain.

If time travel is out of the question, then the ability to magically make myself into the love of David Gandy’s life.

What is your biggest fear?

Spiders. And Freddy Kreuger. I fucking hate him and that evil song...

You have three wishes, what are they?

1. The altruistic wish: end child hunger.

2. The selfish wish: become successful enough to call “Writer” my day job.

3. The other selfish wish: good health for myself and my family.

If you could forever break one habit, what would it be?

Well, I already quit smoking years ago, despite the fact I loved my yellow boxes of American Spirits something fierce. So in the grand scheme of needing to quit things, I think I’m good. Been there, done that - all my other bad shit gets a pass.

Your favourite:

Colour - Black...duh. As Shawn Carter says, “all black everything”

Animal - Horse

Mythical Creature - Dragon

Author - Shit, this is tough, because I don’t know who I love more, Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Zora Neale Hurston so I’m putting them both down, with JRR Tolkien a close second

Book - One Hundred Years of Solitude

Movie - I have many, but Thelma & Louise popped into my head first, so that’s going to be my answer this time

Music Genre - I hate to admit it - this is my dirty little secret - but Pop. I am a pop princess at heart, but I try my best to keep that shit on the down low, but you put some Mariah Carey on the speakers and best know I will be getting my groove on something hard.

TV Show - Friday Night Lights “clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose”

Place to Read - I can read anywhere and I mean anywhere, but I like the idea of reading at the beach.

Food - My mom’s Indian food.

Beverage (Alcoholic and/or Non-Alcoholic) - Old Scout bourbon.

Dessert - Coffee ice cream

Word - Obstreperous

Season - Fall

Procrastination method - Messaging my fellow Write Bitches, Laura Oliva and Kayti Nika Raet, and laughing about horrible book covers, ogling hot boys, and discussing all sorts of dirty, filthy, deviant shit.

Turn on or turn off

Accents - Turn ON. Total girl wood. I’m a sucker for voices so you add an accent to the mix and my panties are totally useless

Surprises - Depends, mostly a turn off

Shyness - Turn on.

Quiet Places - Turn on

Loud Places - Could be a total turn on, depending on what’s on my agenda #wickedsmirk

Dimples - Turn off

Glasses - Turn on

Scars - Turn on mostly because I love stories and scars ALWAYS have a story

Games - Board games, turn on. mind games, turn off.

Comic Books - Neutral

What is your motto?

Do you.

See you on the other side!

Chevoque
