Book Review...Harm (The Outsider Chronicles Book 2) by Kayti Nika Raet

After a harrowing escape from Amaryllis City, Niko is forced to lay low. The people who want to use her unique genetics for their own ends are still out there and their reach is long. After an emotional split with Ben and hiding deep in the slums she soon meets Songhay, a charismatic thief and his younger sister, Roosevelt. Together, they dodge violent gangs, roaming Slithers and the ever present threat of acid rain. Growing closer, Niko, along with Songhay soon form a rag-tag band of Slither hunters to keep the slums safe and the monsters at bay. But then she discovers shocking information about her past that challenges everything she thought to be true about herself and those she loves. Now she has to decide if she's going to stay safe in hiding or stand up to the lies and injustice swarming around her. She was never one to lie low for long. Lies and truth collide in the second book of the Outsider Chronicles.

Let me start by saying...Niko is my favourite book crush and I don't think it will EVER change!

To quote the book; "...awesome... thing ...of awesomeness."

The likes and dislikes: ~The old man and Niko's foot...the H! (There might be a creepy short in there hehehe) ~The fact that every detail of the characters or the settings, weren't repeated like you find in most series, was GREAT! Because come on, if the story is as good as this one, you won't forget these details, because they stay with you and those you forget, don't matter. Kudos to Raet for that! ~Niko's resistance to Ben infuriates the romantic in me - I get her reasoning - but hell that boy better break her wall! With that said; her defensiveness when asked if he is her boyfriend... - *evil laugh* - ...you're getting close, Ben. ~There was a part that crossed over to a memory and while it worked okay, I wished it was more distinguishable, as I had to go back to make sure I wasn't missing something. ~The fight was awesome! I really would have loved to read a flashback or something about one of Songhay's fights, just to get that little something more. ~Songhay kissing Niko (shush, I like the 'romance') was an auw moment, but confused me as I feel a love triangle forming and I hate choosing sides. ~Malik in the dream...*ugly crying* ~The pace was once more spot on; no unnecessary lingering. There were a few moments I thought; 'I hope something happens soon' (I get easily distracted), but then bam! I was sucked back into a sleepless night of finishing the book. ~The Grey-men quarters and area or whatever, I wanted a little more detail around that, but it is still enough to work. ~Niko's attempts to make Jared be a 'good' boy, are so funny, especially when she realises the reason why he isn't. ~The suggestion over what to do with the girl (spy) had me giggling. ~The kiss with Ben...oh gosh! I was swooning and yelling hell yeah and freaking the hell out. Loved it more than is good for me, but Niko killed my buzz a little...still love her though. Notes on characters: Niko - It is Niko, opinions don't matter, she is badass. Ben - *swooning* Jared - He is a cool 'kid' and he is a great character to show that in THIS world being a kid is not even close to the 'privileged' life we mostly have. Jorge is a good example as well. Songhay - Why aren't real guys as hot as he is in my mind? Roosevelt - She is a little monkey like Songhay, which is pretty cute. And she is so funny; has to be my favourite character in the book. Eva - I hope to read a little more of her. The ending... Keep calm, punch a pillow and then read the next book. This was one hell of a book and I recommend the series to anyone...no matter what you are into, this actually has it all!

See you on the other side!
