Book Review...The Outsider Chronicles Shorts by Kayti Nika Raet
Slither
Set three years before the events of Niko, fourteen year old Harmony Niko has been recently orphaned and is trying her best to take care of her two younger brothers. But with acid rain ravaging the landscape and monsters stalking her best simply isn’t enough and she’s forced to make a dangerous decision.
Niko has to be my favourite book crush and reading of her first kill...hell yeah! She is awesome!
Tape the Devil's Mouth
In a future set in a world ravaged by burning rain and roaming monsters those protected in the cities have long ago left the Outsiders to fend for themselves. Only Malik Ramsey and the rest of the Rose Circle attempt to aid those struggling to survive despite the fact that they have a policy of not getting too involved. All that changes the night they discover a girl trapped in a house of flames.
As I began reading, I was like; 'Ooo, awesome, a mission with Malik, Ben, Ari and Duc.' But then; '...girl killing Slithers with a baseball bat,' and if you know the story...well, damn! I liked this short, as it hinted on something great, you would need to know from NIKO or will read in the first book, which still has me frowning with the 'How the, what the...ag, hell no!' In other words; Read it, read it all!
Pale and Crimson
Slithers are vicious creatures. Craving flesh and blood, they will stop at nothing until their hunger is satisfied. So when sixteen year old Benjamin King discovers that one has been smuggled onto the train, he's eager to see it, even if it has been drugged into a mindless stupor. But one moment can change everything. Set six years before Niko, Pale and Crimson chronicles how one decision can have far reaching consequences.
It was so nice to read a piece about Ben and his brother, Will. It showed a kind of innocent ignorance as to what lies ahead and it made me love him even more. That last few paragraphs nearly had me in tears; I knew about Will, but the mother is a bitch! *growl*
See you on the other side!
