Author Quickie with...Ev Bishop

NOTE:

These are the most random Qs I could find and come up with, but it is to show readers how authors are just like them or maybe so different that they are their own species. I have several awesome authors already lined up, but don't let it scare you to take part though. I'll be sharing with you all; the answers to the set questions and introduce you to some awesome people, and later, all of this will be used in a statistical type blog. Hopefully, we can keep this going for as long as possible and gain as many author's inputs to make this thing grow.

But it doesn't stop there:

~If you are an author who is interested in taking part in this silly game of mine; message, email or find me on a social network.

~If you are a reader and wanna take part; do the same and become part of the fun. (It'll be really cool to have your stats as well.)

~If you are none of the above...ag, shame. Anyway, if you are an artist, a doctor, a barista or just randomly ended up here; bring it on and we can have a little fun when the stats have grown.

Morning person or night owl?

Night owl, all the way. It doesn’t matter how early I go to bed, if I have to climb out of the blankets before sunrise, I’m a zombie until at least 10 a.m. Conversely, I can stay up ‘til three or four in the morning, or even pull an all-nighter, and so long as I can spend a few late morning hours sleeping, I’m good to go!

Coffee, tea or neither?

Mmmmmm, both, please. Right now. Extra caffeine.

EBooks or printed books?

I’m actually shocked by the fact that I have to say eBook, pretty much without reservation. (Something I never would’ve predicted even a year ago!) While I love the romantic qualities of print books—the scent of ink and paper, their texture and heft in my hand, how they look lining my shelves—my eReader has spoiled me for the limitations of paper. I read voraciously and having an eReader means I can have a book for any mood or occasion, can carry as many books as I want with me when I travel, and my thumbs and eyes never get sore. (I have pain issues with my wrists and thumbs sometimes. Big books, particularly hardcovers, actually hurt me after a while . . . never an issue with my reader and I ADORE being able to adjust the font size. No more tired eyes, pretty much ever.) Plus, if I come to the end of a story and absolutely must have another book by the same author right away? One click!

Bookmark or dog-ear pages?

I know I should say bookmark—and I love bookmarks. They can be so zany and fun and they’re so much better for your paper books . . . but I have to admit I’ve been known to dog-ear. (Because bookmarks, like hair elastics, seem to disappear into unknown dimensions all the time!) Am I still allowed to hang out here?

Extrovert or Introvert?

Introvert. I enjoy social gatherings and think I’m okay with other people—darts nervous glance over shoulder to see if anyone’s wildly shaking his or her head in disagreement!—but I need a lot of alone time in general, and even more after rampant visiting.

Secret talents? If so, what are they?

If I told you, I’d have to kill you. (See? Doesn’t that make it sound like I actually have some secret talent worth wondering about? A very clever ruse on my part!)

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I’ve always wished I was a shape-shifter.

What is your biggest fear?

That my children will die before me or that they’ll come to some harm that I can’t help with. Adult children = even bigger things worry about. Who knew?

You have three wishes, what are they?

1. To be able to freeze time whenever I desire, in order to prolong days or moments that are particularly sweet.

2. For time to stop when I enter my office and while I’m writing, then start again wherever it left off when I emerge. It’s the only way I can think of that would allow me to write all the stories I have in me while balancing and fully living my “other” life. (And yes, that was another time-related wish. I’m sensing a theme!)

3. World peace—but not merely a cease to violence, bloodshed and terror, a global-yet-individualized deep empathy and understanding of what other humans feel like inside and are motivated by. I think if we all really, deeply, comprehended what it was like to be someone else, it would be impossible to do the things we do to each other on a routine basis. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking. (But hey, you did say these were wishes. ;) )

If you could forever break one habit, what would it be?

I’d like to have better control of my temper.

Your favourite:

Colour - Black

Animal - Dogs

Mythical Creature – Mermaids (except they’re real; everyone just thinks they’re mythical!)

Author – Too many to choose from, but a few I really love are: Diana Gabaldon, Jojo Moyes, Maeve Binchy, Elizabeth Berg. . . .

Book – Gah, again, how can I choose? A few that I love and that have always stayed with me are: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Bag of Bones by Stephen King, Pardon me, You’re Stepping On My Eyeball! by Paul Zindel, and That Was Then, This Is Now by S. E. Hinton.

Movie – When a Man Loves a Woman (Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia)

Music Genre – Totally depends on my mood. I listen to everything from country to rap, to hip-hop to classic rock, you name it. I particularly love new music that has an old twenties/thirties sound. I’m really into Nathanial Rateliff and the Night Sweats right now. **Important note, while I love music, I’m not a musician at all and I’m terrible at describing what I like, so if anyone’s cringing at my description above . . . I’m so sorry!**

TV Show – Downton Abbey, Suits, and The Good Wife.

Place to Read – In bed or on the beach.

Food - Sushi

Beverage (Alcoholic and/or Non-Alcoholic) - Red wine and coffee (nothing fancy, just nice and strong, with double cream. In the coffee, not the wine!)

Dessert - Can I just have seconds of dinner, please?

Word - Sanks! (Instead of “Thanks.” Yes, it’s pathetically cutesy—but I know it’s lame, which helps me pull it off. Also, I always mean it really sincerely, so even though I say it like a dolt, it’s forgivable . . . :D)

Season - Summer, the hotter, the better.

Procrastination method – The Internet

Turn on or turn off

Accents – Huge turn on.

Surprises – Turn on.

Shyness - Not a turn off.

Quiet Places – Turn on.

Loud Places – Depends on my mood.

Dimples – Sure.

Glasses – Turn on.

Scars – Turn on.

Games – What kind? J Board games equal BIG turn on, but head games? BIGGEST turn off.

Comic Books – Not for me, usually—but I’ll find your enthusiasm endearing! J

(Okay . . . from the above, I’ve learned I’m very easy to turn on. Heh!)

What is your motto?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~ Mark Twain

See you on the other side!
